Ettore Lombardo' area in Musolino cleaned up after Easter Monday: yet another clean-up operation to combat incivility
A joint inspection took place this morning at the 'Ettore Lombardo' equipped area in Musolino, in the presence of municipal councillor Nino Carreri, Messinaservizi Bene Comune president Mariagrazia Interdonato and the provincial manager of the former Azienda Forestale e Demaniale Giovanni Dell'Acqua.
The intervention was necessary due to the serious condition in which the area was found at the end of the Easter holiday. The operators of the former Azienda Forestale carried out the reclamation and restoration of the area, while Messinaservizi cleaned up the green area and removed the abandoned rubbish.
We were confronted with clear signs of profound incivility and a total lack of respect for the common good: one of the benches in the area was even torn up, presumably to obtain wood to light a barbecue. This is a serious gesture, which highlights how strong action is still needed to raise awareness of respect for public spaces.
"Even on holidays," says Messinaservizi president Mariagrazia Interdonato, "it is important not to forget respect for the environment and for the common goods that belong to everyone. Every uncivil act represents a collective damage that burdens the community."
"For the umpteenth time," adds the manager of the former Forestry Company, Giovanni Dell'Acqua, "we have intervened to restore decorum to a public space designed for aggregation and leisure time. We make a heartfelt appeal to civic sense: in the absence of respect for the rules, we will be forced to consider banning the area and removing the equipment."
"The synergy between the entities," concludes councillor Nino Carreri, "was once again decisive in tackling the emergency and reaffirming the value of teamwork against neglect and degradation. But it is clear that we need greater awareness on the part of citizens: equipped areas are a heritage to be defended, not damaged."
